| | Guest | Calm Down, Calm Down afaik theyve always said thatat Crewe - seems a bit pointless to be when
they say "please cross from platform 6 to platform 11 or platform 5 to
platform 1 in a calm manner" - your not even technically leaving the
platform . if memory serve me correctly its about 30 paces - not that ive
counted or anything

| | Guest | Calm Down, Calm Down The announcer at Crewe has recently amended the script for platform
alterations.
Instead of "Passengers for [train] should make their way to [platform]",
it's now "Passengers for [train] should make their way *in a calm
manner* to [platform]".
What prompted the change? Has there been a platform change bust-up on
the footbridge?

| | Guest | Calm Down, Calm Down Maybe because when they announce that you are effectively on the wrong
platform
for your train then you usually assume it will be pulling off within seconds
and
make a 'mad dash' to change platforms
Maybe they should add at the end also "and the train will not be pulling off
for
another "x" minutes" | |

Many places have different styles of announcments, at York the other
day It went something like:
"Correction, Correction, Platform Alteration, this is a Platform
Alteration, Nine, Nine, Platform Nine, Nine for the xx:xx Transpennine
Express service to Manchester Airport, calling at x, y, z & Manchester
Airport. Nine, Nine, Platform Nine, for the xx:xx service to
Manahester Airport, which now departs from platform Nine, platform
nine. | |

Nope. That was the wording last Tuesday afternoon. I can be sure as it
was my train that got its platform altered (1811 Crewe to Liverpool).
From 10 to 12, which is one of Crewe's less trivial treks.

I've heard that announcement. Although it is only Crewe where they
seem to make it.
On the subject of 'calm down,' have you ever come across the female
Virgin Trains Welfare officer at Crewe who I have simply christened
'The Crow?' (because she just seems to squawk).
I saw her shouting at a passenger for setting down a cup of coffee on
the platform and then accidentally knocking it over.
A traction inspector I know also told me about the time a train to
Manchester was diverted through Crewe and stopped in the platform, and
for some reason the conductor unlocked the doors. Due to the fact that
people were then getting on the train when it wasn't booked to stop at
Crewe, 'The Crow' was screaming and shouting at passengers to stop.
For those who think they may know who I'm on about, she's quite large
and has shoulder length black hair.
