Default Arriva Cancellations

HI

Some items from the Arriva website:

Alteration 17:55 Selby to Manchester Victoria via Halifax
This train will be run fast from Selby to Leeds. It will no longer call at:
South Milford, Micklefield, East Garforth, Garforth and Cross Gates. This is
due to DRIVER BEING OUT OF HOURS..

An interesting one, how much time would actually be saved by this operation?

Cancellation 19:33 Manchester Piccadilly to Leeds via Huddersfield
This train has been cancelled. This is due to no driver being available.

These ones remind me of the bad old days at the height of ATN's shortage:

Cancellation 20:57 Wakefield Westgate to Pontefract Monkhill
This train has been cancelled. This is due to no driver being available.

Cancellation 21:29 Pontefract Monkhill to Wakefield Westgate
This train has been cancelled. This is due to no driver being available.

Cancellation 21:58 Wakefield Westgate to Pontefract Monkhill
This train has been cancelled. This is due to no driver being available.

Cancellation 22:33 Pontefract Monkhill to Wakefield Westgate
This train has been cancelled. This is due to no driver being available.

Cancellation 23:01 Wakefield Westgate to Pontefract Monkhill
This train has been cancelled. This is due to no driver being available.

Let's hope they've put some buses on instead of those services as if I'm not
mistaken that is the entire evening timetable on that route

Andrew

My favourite was an announcement at Huddersfield, "We are sorry to
announce that the 15.27 service to Lincoln Central [via Sheffield] has
been cancelled due to a driver shortage at Sheffield"

Funny that cos a 144 came out of the tunnel and parked up at platform
4 behind the Leeds train. So the train managed to get from Sheffield
to Huddersfield, surely therefore it would be a cancellation due to a
shortage of crew a Huddersfield? As there had been a crew on the train
from Sheffield!

Crikey...i'm surprised they don't get confused. Surely there must be a
better way of doing it, because that means that everytime say a
Huddersfield train is late (which lets be honest is every day of
late...anything from 5 minutes to an hour and a half), the Cleethorpes
train will be late too.

Wouldn't it be more sensible to shove a guard on one service for the
day with breaks allocated at whatever station is nearest their break
times either Sheffield, Lincoln or Huddersfield, or even
Cleethorpes...might get very boring though being stuck on say the
Wakefield Kirkgate-Sheffield working all day.

How did they end up with so many driver shortages?

Its the same old story of loosing drivers faster than you an train up new
ones.

Despite giving the drivers £29,000 a year plus, and putting in there
contract they have to give 6 months notice before they leave, they are still
leaving to go to £35,000 a year jobs at Frieghtliner who are prepared to
wait until the driver has worked his 6 months notice at Arriva.

Same goes for the depot at Piccadilly, where several are working there
notice before going to Virgin.

Now Arriva have said that there are a number of drivers being trained at the
moment.

However this takes at least a year to train them. So when a Driver hands in
his notice, his replacement will only be half way through his training when
the driver leaves.

not strictly so. The TPE links and rosters are now in force, which is a
less effiecient way of handling the traincrew and train unit resource,
and as the SRA has not authorised additrional crews to cater for the
split, there is a shortage and hence train cancellations.

Another case of ATN getting the stick for not its fault!
