Default Leisure batteries

I'm sure you've been through this until you're sick of it, but what is

leisure battery? Are the carbon- fibre types worth the extra? Which type
best resists sulphating when someone leaves the fridge on for a week
while the boat is moored unattended?

I bought mine from Shield at Bishops Stortford and so far (kiss of
death) I am very satisfied, but I do keep them well charged and always
charge them prior to leaving the boat.
