Somebody with a vested interest objecting to new development? Heaven
forbid!

I read somewhere (in a newspaper? I forget which one) that almost all
britons would agree with a statement like "The UK has a housing
shortage" but very few with "More houses should be built in my
neighbourhood!".

We're a nation of NIMBYs ;-)
