Default Water in Fuel

I expect this topic has been raised before but we have just returned from a
10 week 500 mile cruise. About 5 mile from home base decided I ought to top
up with fuel. Unfortunately the 70 odd litres I bought was heavily
contaminated with water. Of course I didn't know this until approaching the
M1 road bridge on the Trent near the weir where a gentleman was helicoptered
off his boat earlier in the year (I won't go into that) when. not
surprisingly, the engine failed. With an amount of difficulty and trying to
demolish a bridge support I managed to moor under the bridge. I carry spare
filters so with the really excellent assistance of RCR we were able to get
under way again. I am, of course, still getting water in the separator so
my question is does anyone know of a water removing (or emulsifying)
additive that actually works. Name and supplier would be very helpful.

Default Water in Fuel

Tip - get some water finding paste - about £10 for a jar which will
last for years - and a pack of ice lolly sticks. When taking fuel get
a sample first in a jamjar and check that it is clear and bright. Free
water will be at the bottom. Dip lolly stick into paste to get a thin
smear on stick and then into dieso - if water is present the green
paste will turn purple. If purple, or cloudy reject fuel.
