Default Is DOF on a VFR flight plan non-ICAO?

That's what someone just told me - it is therefore not supposed to be
used...

I have generally found that using DOF, with a date a few days ahead,
is a good way for a FP to *not* get filed.

What about an IFR flight plan?

Peter.

Can't speak for VFR, but for IFR with one of the charter lines, here's the
deal...

We file each flight plan a maximum of 6 hours in advance.

The AFTN will not allow IFR plans to be filed further than 24hrs in advance.

If we put the DOF in field 18 (rmk) column, then the flight plan will be
delayed further but the routing, wind etc etc all become far too old to be
worth the doing. It is not allowed under company rules.

Each filed plan is valid for 36hrs.

Just got this from my ops department for you...hope it helps.

David
