BAA: Countdown begins: 100 days to take off for Glasgow skyhub
Just a shame that there will be hardly any flights or passengers to
use it. 9 per cent drop in passengers since last year.... Methinks
most of this development will be retail led rather than for the
comfort of the passenger....

I couldn't agree more, if GLA drops to 8.5 m pax next year that will
only mean 23,287 pax per day passing through a space the size of say
the Gyle, with about a quarter the shops..
P.S. The actual drop was 3.6%

Yeah - the BAA's current TV ad speaks volumes ...

I would think first and foremost - BAA will be unhappy at declining
passenger numbers. Making an airport a better place to use will hopefully
play a part in reversing that decline and in turn attract the relevant
commercial interest airside.

Nearly 9m a year is "hardly any passengers"?

Retail isn't exactly flavour of the month either, what with the
economy the way it is!

If the railway link passenger number projections are correct then there
will be no overall increase in passenger numbers through it at GLA - merely
a very slight shift from car to rail use. The only way numbers are going to
increase is if sustainable services are introduced to replace the falling
number of holiday charter services at GLA.

Agreed. A train link to the city centre won't cause more people to fly but
direct air links to many more of the most popular city destinations/sources
of visitors and major European hubs will.
