And faster, too. Some of the sites (Easyjet is bad and BMIBaby has
become even worse recently) make you click through half a dozen pages
nagging you to buy extras, until you can get to the final "buy now"
page.

Or is this just the quid pro quo for having a cheap flight?

If they are selling you a flight for 1p all in then it is worth the
trawling ;)

I wish they were all that cheap. In the past week I've declined to buy a
Ryanair return flight (for as far away as next August, but it was 4 hrs
each way) that was £400 return; but was 'forced' to buy a BMIBaby flight
that's almost £250 return for a 1-hour flight.

I'm flying to Paris and back later this month, booked only a month in
advance, for about £95 all inclusive (with £20 of optional fees). So the
price is good, and can't beat that by train (I haven't got the spare
time to use the train either) But I started off with base prices of
£14.99 + £19.99 before it all added up to £95 !!

Total: Flight £35
Taxes/Charges £40
Extras £20

Baggage £16
Check-in fee £8

Total £92.04

If I was able to convince Mrs M that we could travel for a week with just
10Kg of hand luggage we could have done it for £68 return. Sadly that was a
futile attempt.

Similarly, I am going to Dublin next week with the family. If I could
have persuaded the wife to leave a bag and the toddler behind, we'd be
going for 6p all in; as it is, it broke down like this:

0.02 GBP Total Fare
0.00 GBP Taxes, Fees & Charges
6.00 GBP Passenger Fee: Airport Check in
20.00 GBP Passenger Fee: Infant
16.00 GBP Passenger Fee: BAG
42.02 GBP Total Paid

for me and the infant, and:

0.04 GBP Total Fare
0.00 GBP Taxes, Fees & Charges
0.04 GBP Total Paid

for the mrs plus kid no 1.

£42.06 all in. Two separate bookings meant only one set of check in
charges, plus the second booking can use online check in and be in the
first group of passengers to board.
