Default name change after marriage and KLM

Hi, I'm having hard time with KLM and expedia. I booked flights a
while ago for me and my, by then girlfriend, now wife. Tickets were
booked for international flight with KLM between UK and Malaysia and
return from Singapore and I booked it in her maiden name.

Now that she has changed her name and has a new passport in a new name
I thought its simple just to alter name (knowing of course that it is
still the same person flying - just like misspelling in name lets
say).

I tried contacting KLM but they say its not their business as flights
were booked with Expedia ( and guy I spoke to refused to give me his
name, didnt let me speak to his manager and hung up on me in the
end ). On KLM website it clearly says that they can change name if
required and I should contact booking agent -> expedia.
However expedia says that KLM doesn't allow them to change the name
and offers me option to cancel flights and book new ones which are
obviously much more expensive.

We have both passports (old one which is stamped invalid and new one)
and international marriage certificate.
Did anyone had a situation like this and managed to resolve it
normally i.e. without cancelation and rebooking?

I would appreciate all the comments as flights are less than 3 weeks
away!

This should not be a problem, as your wife has both passports, which will
prove she is the same passenger. But keep notes as to when you called KLM
and Expedia just in case they ask why you didn't change it.

Default name change after marriage and KLM

Thanks for all answers, after several more phone calls to expedia they
said they will try(??) to change the name and I should be in touch on
Wednesday to check.
It is absolutely ridiculus situation because it is such a simple
problem to deal with. I'm sure there must be some regulations anywhere
allowing women to use both names providing she proves it is still her
travelling...

anyway, I'll keep you updated

What the airlines require (because governments tell them to) is proof of
identity. Your identity doesn't change just because your name does.
