Default sports equipment supplements on flights

I'm considering booking a return flight on Monarch. They offer to
carry up to 13kg of sports equipment for a cost of ?ú10 each way.
This compares to their excess baggage charges of ?ú4 per kilo.

For people who actually have first hand experience of this kind
of supplement, do Monarch actually check that it's bona-fide sports
equipment, or can I use this for an extra bag of stuff?

Your advice would be most welcome

Pete

I looked this up recently for a different airline. Their surcharge for
sports equipment was purely due to the size (which would otherwise be
too large to accept).

The *weight* of the sports equipment came out of the normal baggage
allowance.

So I'd double check what they were offering, if I were you.
