Default Photography at BHX

Can anyone suggest a better place for taking aircraft photography apart from
the viewing gallery (tinted double glazed windows, sun facing towards you in
the afternoon, admittedly not much of a problem at Birmingham).

I have seen some very close up photos taken at BHX but they seem to be taken
from airside, which is not an option for me.

I usually try the outdoor viewing area right next to the taxiway by terminal
2 or the bottom of the car park virtually at the south end of the runway.

How do you reach the outside viewing area? is it signposted or just a lay-by
off the road.
