Default Alitalia or Gulf Air?

I was looking at flights from LHR to Dubai.
The two most competitive deals for the dates I would fly are with Alitalia
and Gulf Air with only £4 difference.
They both fly at times convenient to me and both include a transfer of
planes in either Milan with Alitalia or Bahrain with Gulf Air.
Both airlines have been reviewed as 4 star airlines with not much inbetween
the official rating of service offered and passenger comfort.
However, the only disadvantage so far of flying Gulf Air would be that I
wouldn't get frequent flyer points that I would with Alitalia.
Do you (the reader) think it's worth flying with Alitalia for this advantage
or is there something I can expect with Gulf Air that would mean I should
forget the points and fly with them instead?

Simon

My parents were booked to fly to Dubai with Alitalia via Milan. There was an
Alitalia strike on the day in question and they ended up being put on a
direct Emirates flight instead.

They flew back with Alitalia.

With the advantage of hindsight, they said they would have paid up to £100
more each to fly Emirates both ways for the convenience, in flight
entertainment etc.

HTH. YMMV.
