Default Rescheduled outbound sector - cancelled return sector - normal ?

I'm just back from a weekend in Lisbon (great city), but it was marred
by my sister missing her Friday afternoon LHR-LIS flight (delayed
DUB-LHR bmi flight) which resulted in her being rescheduled on a
LGW-LIS flight the next morning for a fairly reasonable 44 gbp fee
(they refused to put her on the LHR-OPO-LIS flight on the Friday
evening, but that's another story).

So far, not too bad ... trouble was, when we arrived at LIS on Sunday
evening, her return flight had been "automatically cancelled" by the
TAP computer system because she failed to show for her outbound
sector. Is this normal, or should the booking have been re-instated
when they rescheduled her outbound leg ?

Just want to know for next time ! btw, it ended happily enough, there
were enough no-shows that she got a seat on the LIS-LHR flight, but if
everybody had showed, she would been stuck in LIS overnight.

Thanks

Andrew

If the airline cancelled the LON -LIS flight, no matter where they re
routed the passenger by, it is their responsibility to issue and not
charge for the re-routing. As I said before, it looks like two
seperate tickets were purchased, therefore the carrier to Lisbon would
have no responsibilities at all, because of the BMI being late.
