UK Passport Fees question... I expect 5 year passports will become standard over the next 5/10
years. A ten year replacement cycle is really not long enough to stay
technically ahead of forgers.
Canada already has 5 year passports, and NZ will follow next year.
The real problem with the 5 year passport is that many countries
demand more than 6 months validity on a foreign passport in order to
accept it for entry to their country, so your 5 year passport is
really only good for 4.5 years.
That '6 month rule' some countries have could be addressed by an
international agreement but don't hold your breath.
