Default Lonely flights

I remember an uncle of mine telling me how, some 20 or so years ago, he flew
on a DC10 with Lufthansa from Sao Paulo to Frankfurt.
It was New Year's Eve and he was one of only 5 passengers on the flight.

Has anyone any similar experiences of such a lonely flight?

Gerry

I flew MAN to MUC about 1980 with about the same number
of people. I got the impression such low numbers were normal
from MAN to destinations at that sort of distance.

I thunk that things have changed

Yes, I flew from Dallas to Gatwick very late in BCal's era [1], on the
second flight of the day on the last day of the summer season (in the
winter there was just the earlier flight). It was very empty, but I
couldn't quote a number.

And four? years ago from Stansted to Oslo on a late-night flight that
was 20 minutes after the previous late-night flight from another carrier
(so most people would have booked the earlier one). I think there were 5
or 6 of us, plus cabin crew.

[1] iirc I was flying back having done some field testing of the Amstrad
PPC in the USA, so that would be Autumn 1987.

Many years ago we had two old ladies who were confusticated, and
instead of boarding a Laker to Alicante which was two down on load,
they went down the wrong steps and across the tarmac to an american
transair to New York and the stewardess gave thumbs up for *load*
completed to the dispatcher and off it went. They came back on an
empty 707 of Caledonian two days later -held in not over tight custody
at NY due no visa etc whilst arrangements could be made to fly them
back.
