Default US Travel - Visa Waiver

I heard somewhere that the US Government were changing the Visa Waiver
Programme so that UK nationals would need to obtain a full Visa from the US
Embassy to travel later this year.

Did I hear correct or have I misheard?

They also said that you would still be able to travel on VWP is you had a
passport dated before October 2004 - is this right?

Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks

Sounds about right.
You can apply for a new passport and have up to 9 months credited ( so your
new one will last 10 years and 9 months maximum).
My mother, whos passport was due to in Dec has just got her new passport
back- took 2 weeks.

This is out of date. It was roughly the proposal earlier in the year.

A new compromise has been thrashed out (which may well last until the UK
has a biometric passport available). Brits can continue to use the VWP,
but will be fingerprinted and photographed on entry to USA.

Except it's wrong.

That's interesting. I emailed the passport office and asked them this
specific question about three weeks ago. They said the new passport
would be 10 years from the date of *issue*.

Has your mum confirmed she got the credit?
