Default Bulkhead / Emergency Exit Seats

Hi,
I've haven't flown for years, but would like to do a DIY fly drive to
the US. The only thing that stops me is that I know my knees will give me
real jip on (and after) the flight if I don't have adequate legroom to
stretch out. Is it possible to pre-book Bulkhead or Emergency Exit seats? I
don't mind paying a supplement. If so can anyone advise what airlines might
offer this feature. It'll be just me travelling by myself and flying from
London.

Regards Richard

AIUI, Virgin sell their exit rows for a £50 supplement, although they can't
be pre-booked - it's first come, first served at check-in.

You can pre-book the bulkhead seats on AA (subject to availability) - you
could also do the booking by phone with the airline to make sure a
bulkhead/exit row was available on the plane you book.

Dont forget a several airlines VS/BA have economy+ seating with extra
legroom.

Finally dont forget that when booking those wonderful cheap sounding car
rentals in the US, the prices exclude all sorts of taxes and insurances
which can add up to a lot more than the daily rental costs.

Not half.

I was pricing up a car for a week in Ontario.

First page: $192 with unlimited mileage

"wow - that's only eighty quid - excellent"

Final total including goods and services tax, fuel conservation tax, premium
location charge, provincial sales tax, vehicle licensing tax, personal
accident insurance and physical damage waiver?

$451....

Are you sure ?
I have definately seen them on the seat selection plan, not all filled up.
But I dont like them because although you get more knee room you tend to get
less foot room. (But AA seem much more generous for foot room than most).

Are you referring to 30CDEFG on the 777s? I would call these bulkhead
seats, but AA.com seems to think of them as "exit row" seats. I have
reserved these in the past (both as PLT and without status). I am not
sure whether row 20 is treated differently.
