Don't worry I'm heading out for the West Coast USA, before I come back to
theEast Coast, and back to the UK - So I'm going to be totally $%&$ed up
time zone wise by the time I get back :-) and hungry as I am being made to
change planes in the middle, so I'll be lucky to get a snack on board - and
the 40 minute plane change at ORD should be fun (whats the chance of fitting
a smoke AND a big Mac into those 40 minutes ? )

Don't know about the smoke as I'm not a smoker but food you'll have no
problem.
There's a good chance your gates will be close together and ORD has
plenty of food choices near the gates and in between.

None - by the time I got to the gate they were bording.

Bit of a pain with the 3 hour layover on the way back. I spotted a flight
to my destination (PVD) leaving an hour after I arrived, but they wouldnt
change my ticket to put me on it, because I had checked a bag and there
wasnt time to change the bag to the other flight.

So guess what happens, when I arrive at PVD......

my bag got there on the previous flight.
