    Default ATOL coverage for flights

Can someone give me some advice?

I know that if I book a tour and flights separately and the tour
operator goes bust then the flights aren't covered by ATOL. But if I
get the tour operator to book them for me (where they are just going
to the BA web site) and I pay the tour operator, am I covered then?

Any other advice on how to avoid being caught out by a tour comapny
    going bust would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

A lot of the online agents who book flights will sell airline failure
insurance. I know Airline Network does at about £2 per person per booking.
