Default Fluid Trainer Question

I have a Kurt Kinetic trainer. They suggest 2 full turns
after contact, and that works for me.

I use my heart rate as a gauge, rather than perceived exertion/resistance.
I live in a hilly area, so it is interesting to be able to really plan the
workout. On an outdoor ride, my heart rate "is what it is".

Overall, it feels like LESS effort, until I get well into the workout.
Also, all things being more-or-less equal, I notice day-to-day variations in
the resistance. They probably have to do with variations in temperature and
tire pressure.
