Default Hotel horror stories!

Hey all you worldly type travel dogs! How was everyone's 4th of July weekend? Hopefully just the right amount of crazy and chill. Which is how I always like my weekends to be.

Was anyone able to do some traveling? Whether it be some nearby getaway, or a full blown 4th of July holiday extravaganza. Of course with any sort of traveling, there are bound to be some glitches in the plans, so does anyone here have any sort of hotel horror stories?

We've all been to that shady hotel/motel in order to pinch a few pennies and enjoy a decent vacation, and with that comes all sorts of other issues that are not hilarious at the time maybe, but wonderful anecdotes to share with all! So let's hear em!

There's this video from Hampton Inn featuring a kind of film noir, swanky, little poetic description of all the sorts of things you can encounter while staying at a sub par hotel. Check it out!

Btw, I work with Hampton Inn to bring this video to all you travelers! So what's your hotel horror story?

I thought it was a very well made spoof and didn't realize until you get to the end that it was a real commercial. Very nice!

As for my worst hotel story, I stayed at a hotel in Shanghai in the early 1980s. The hotel was one of the old pre-Communist Western-style hotels that had fell into disarray. It was actually considered an upscale hotel at that time for foreigners with large rooms. However, my bathtub appeared not to have been cleaned since the 1949 revolution. It was totally green from caked on scum. I wore a pair of Japanese "zori" sandals to insulate me from the scum and took a shower.

Otherwise, it would have to have been that motel in Boulder, Colorado where one would hear the sound of the mice and cockroaches scurrying about every time you turned off the lights. I didn't get the best night's sleep that one night. Unfortunately, there just were hardly any other rooms available in Boulder due to a visit by members of the Imperial Family of Japan/press.
