FIVE DAYS IN ICELAND IN AUGUST - HELP? Hi All,
My 15-yr old (boy) and I are spending 5 full days in Iceland in August.
We'll probably spend the first night in Reykjavik (and maybe the last
night too, depending where we end up) but we're looking for suggestions
for an itinerary to fill up our five days.
I'm sure we'd like to see the usual stuff: glaciers, hot springs,
waterfalls, craters, ice lakes? lava formations? whales, etc. but also
anything that's out-of-the-ordinary and not-to-be-missed, ESPECIALLY if
it would be interesting to a teenager.
We're renting a car and self-driving everywhere.
We're also looking to stay in guest or farm houses (except perhaps for
our nights in Reykjavik proper?) to soak up as much "local color" as
possible.
We want a fairly relaxed itinerary, probably focusing on the Golden
Circle and whatever is within a reasonable day's drive from one place
to the next (we hate rushing around.)
Of course, we're starting (and ending) in Reykjavik.
Could someone help us with some suggestions? Anything we should know or
avoid? Best farm or guesthouses? Best towns to visit?
Thanks!
