Default lost airline ticket (international)

i know i should have fedexed the tickets. anyway, here's the
situation. i booked my tickets on swiss airways from a travel agent,
then cancelled the tickets and booked another ticket on a different
date. the travel agent charged the cancellation fee and asked me to
mail back the cancelled tickets along with the cancellation fee. i
mailed them the check and the cancelled tickets on the same day but in
different envelops. the travel agent now claims that they received the
check but not the cancelled ticket, little hard to believe but may be
its true. now they say that i've to pay the entire cost of the
cancelled ticket. its ridiculous!!, or else they won't send the new
tickets. the swiss airline wasn't of much help as they said it has to
be dealt with the travel agent. has anyone faced or know a similar
situation. whats the general rule on lost cancelled international
tickets.

-thanks

Default lost airline ticket (international)

Hi -

I'm a travel agent myself and have been through this from the agents
side.

First off, it's unlikely that the agent is trying to keep your money
since they really don't have it anyway. The money is either submitted
to the airline the week after you paid for the ticket or automatically
if you paid by credit card. They may have their own fees involved.
They also didn't make anything from the airline itself...Swiss
discontinued agency commissions on April 1.

Swiss isn't the easiest airline to deal with. But you should be able
to get them to fax you a Lost Ticket Application (LTA). They usually
do it by fax and then charge you a fee when you call in. You'll likely
need a copy of the original ticket from the agency. If they refuse to
send you something hang up and call back. You'd be amazed how often I
have to call the same vendor to get a reseverations agent that's
willing to work with me.

Either way, you're looking at several weeks or months to get the money
back. If you paid by credit card, your credit card company may help
back you on this too. It's worth calling them to see. If you paid by
check or cash, well, you'd better get an LTA somehow.

Best of luck.
