Default Some questions about Europe-Asia boundary

When I ran a quiz on Europan capitals in rec.games.trivia a couple of
years ago, I used a definition where the highest peaks in the Caucasus
range defined the border. By this definition, Georgia and Azerbaijan
partly became part of Europe. (For the Ural, I used the Ural river
as the boundary.)

But there is also a definition which puts the border in the Manych basin,
which I believe is where the river that connected the Caspian Sea with
the Black Sea ran 10-12000 years ago. (Both were sweetwater lakes then.)
That definition puts all of the North-Caucasian republics in Asia.

I don`t think that many people share this idea of Mao ( Europe as a
peninsula of Asia )

It certainly predates Mao. I know of no geographic definition of
continent that makes Europe one. FFM

Turkey and even Israel (Must be Palestine as well then) seems sure that
they belong to Europe too.

But they don't, except for a tiny little peace of Turkey..........

Then you should go on studying.

There are several different sets of geographical continents depending
on the branch of geography you occupy yourself with.

If you study the orign of Tellus' land and oceans you probably refer
to the physical continents: Amercia, Euroasia, Africa, Australia,
Oceannia, Greenland, Antarktis etc. (I'm not sure about the English
word for this, but direct translation from Norwegian would be 'Nature
Geography')

If you study the sosioeconomic areas of the world you probably refer
to Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia/Oceannia, North America (excluding
Mexico) and Latin America (including Mexico). In some context you will
find 3 Americas: North, Middle and south. Some would also suggest that
Russia is a continent. (I'm not sure about the English word for this,
but direct translation from Norwegian would be 'Culture Geography')

If you study (I'm not sure about the English word for this, but direct
translation from Norwegian would be 'Region Geography') you will focus
on regions rather than continents. In this branch of geography the
Middle east and Scandinavia will be looked upon as regions or
'continents'
