The military approach is probably the most environmentally friendly.
At certain intervals oil samples are taken from the vehicles and sent
for analysis. The actual need for a full oil change is dictated by
the lab results. Vehicles in need of oil changes are sent to an
organizational maintenance shop for the process. I doubt that the
interval is as often as 3,000 miles.

| | Guest | Stop the old oil change arguments...here's the scoop Look at the figures below to see how approximately how much oil changes cost
you at various intervals and how much oil you actually save. Also look at
how
much gasoline your car will use over the same 100,000 mile period, and how
much
you save. No science. Just reasonable mathematical estimates., gas assumed
to be
US2.75 per American gallon, and oil at $2.29 per quart. Filter estimated at
$5.

What is this motor oil that you are all arguing about?

Back in 1987 a fella by the name of Albert Klein of Pasadena, Calif, drove
into Santa Monica Volkswagen, had hoped to find a good engine rebuilder...
VW asked the man how he was able to put a million miles on his 63 Beetle -
Klein said that he had changed his oil every 2000 miles.. VW ended up giving
the man a brand NEW Volkswagen.
Was depicted in 87 on front page Los Angeles Times!
By Jan. 1993 Klein added an additional 400,000+ miles to his Beetle's
(original factory built) engine!

I change my oil once a year regardless of milage.
I car lasted until 350K miles with no core engine work ever.

No surprise in your case. I've driven manuals all my life and I've only ever had
to replace one clutch plate (on a car that already had 90,000 mi on it).

Probably not a bad policy; actually quite prudent I'd think.
Seems to have worked well for you...

Electro-galvanised steel is the key to non-rusting cars.
It's *that* simple.

Hmmm....ever seen a painted DeLorean? I saw a red one once...
$10,000 for the paint and prep work to cover the stainless!
