Default california emmissions

The factory repair manual should have a section that breaks down the
VIN and tell you if it's Calif or not. The local dealer may or may not
be willing to tell you. Another place is the underhood sticker on the
type of emissions system it has.

I thought all toyotas complied, so you are saying a pa car may be
denied a lisence?

Default california emmissions

California emissions standard is the most stringent in the US and
probably the world. Toyota markets Partial Zero Emissions (PZEV) 4-cyl
only in Calif. 49 states it's ULEV-II. I thought MA and NY are just as
strict, but probably not.

That's why parts store sell oxygen sensors "for Calif" and "excluding
Calif".

"The most stringent emissions standards in the world are to be found
in California which has become the benchmark for worldwide
environmental legislation. The legislation refers to LEV (Low Emission
Vehicle), ULEV (Ultra LEV), SULEV (Super Ultra LEV), and ZEV (Zero
Emission Vehicle)."

That's probably why Calif/US Toyotas are sludging up, requiring 5000
mile intervals, while other regions' Toyotas do not.
