Well, congratulations on your decision!

Personally, I didn't use either of those. I used the Gleim Written Test
Prep book (the red book), but then I learn better by reading and
studying than I do watching videos.

Keep in mind that the pilot training as well as the written test is
really mandated by the FAA, not by any particular affiliation of the
flight school (other than Part 61 vs 141, etc.). So you should be
able to use any study aid you like: the questions on the test won't
change.

Well, Rod's humor is certainly a matter of taste. I sure get a lot out
of his books, though.

Best of luck in your training. I hope you'll continue to post about
your experiences.

The test prep really is its own "thing". I realize that some folks will
argue that you should not practice the test prep materials simply to
"pass" the test. However, I think there is a very good reason for doing
just this. The material will "stick" and you will be able to use it
later, as you progress through training and in your flying career.

For example, when you need to know about cloud clearance requirements,
altitudes where O2 is required, when and for whom seat belts are required,
etc.

It should not be used as a complete ground school. For this, I used other
books (by Kershner, Machado, FAR/AIM, etc.).

Its unlikely that the school will let you choose. If they use the
Cessna kit, they will want you to use the Cessna kit. Each time we fly
with students you record the lesson numbers, etc. If your kit didn't
match up with the master you would be out of sync. Not a bit deal for
a 61 operation but a serious issue for a 141 op.

For a 141 operation, the requirement is that you do the lessons in
order. However, you don't have to always proceed to the next lesson.
In fact solo is usually lesson 9 (after 8 hours), its not unusual to
see lesson 8 in a master sheet 3 or 4 times for a given student. Don't
feel rushed, you can go at your own pace but you just can't skip over
a lesson and move on to the next (that is a big, big no-no). Again
though, your lesson sheet needs to be the same as the school's master.
The fastest way to get your butt chewed out as a CFI at a 141 school
is to have errors in the master log (probably because that is what the
FAA audits). I recall a CFI getting a 10 minute dress-down because he
hadn't put any instrument time in the school's master sheet but had
loged instrument time in the student's log book.
