You say as someone who has never had to do a flightplan with a
standard winds-aloft forecast in an aircraft whose gauges are all MPH;)

Yep, NASA sent Lockheed a specification for one of the re-entry
rockets in Newtons of force, and Lockheed assumed the specification
was in pounds. The error was discovered months before the rocket was
to be used for approaching Mars orbit, and nothing could be done about
it. The spacecraft fired itself into the ground.

Kilometerage?

I recall my first CFL broadcast out of Montreal. Play-by-play in French
just seemed so wrong.
