You do not need an aerobatic ac for spins. Since a spin is a stalled
maneuver the loads are very low, the critical part is the pullout or
recovery from spiral dive. The C172 is ok for spin recovery training but
they are easier to spin left because of engine torque. Since you will be in
the left seat your size will have some effect. Be sure and do a full
preflight weight and balance calcutation and try to do it with less than 1/2
fuel. The CG location will effect the recovery characteristics, make sure
you are within the utility envelope and not out the back.
Find a Citabria if you can, I think you will find it a great learning
experience.
