Default Why don't US pilots use bug wipers?

Are there really that many more bugs in Europe? Or, are they just more
concerned with clean wings over there?
Are they legal to use in competition over here in the USA? Do they work
well? (European pilots, please answer this one.)

Just wondering if I should order them on the new glider. Rather expensive,
though.

Thanks!

Depends on where you fly..
Not many bugs out here in the wild wild west.
Except for early spring.

I think it's just an informal gentleman's agreement not to bother with
them.
