A giant for a glider

Hi please can someone help.

I am looking to find a suitable aircraft/club for a male ab initio
with no prior experience.
However he is 6'4 and 231lbs (16.5 stone) though medium build. and I
am uncertain that he will be able to fit into the front of a K13 for
instruction.
Does anyone know of anyone of similar height and build that has learnt
to fly a glider and if so was it a K13/21 etc?

I'm 6'1, but rather thin and 've learnt to fly on a K21. It's
comfortable because of the lieing position. But buy yourself some
slender sneakers if you 've also got big feet, because longer pilots
have to adjust their pedals to a position, where the fuselage is getting
smaller and smaller.

I know some glider pilots which are as tall as you and I rather belive
they have learnt it on a 21 as well. Also thicker people fit well into
the K21.

I'm 6'2 and 200lbs, and I fit in our K21 nicely. It's pretty much a
perfect fit with the rudder pedals all the way forward, but I always have
to check my head before I close the canopy because if I'm sitting up too
much I'll bang my head when I close it. I could see the extra two inches
being a real problem.

A fellow student in my club is a bit larger than I am in all respects,
probably similar to your friend. I believe he has flown our K21 but he
much prefers our Grob 103 because it's significantly roomier. I have
plenty of clearance for my head and no trouble fitting in any other
dimension.

If you have a club that is reasonably close your best bet is probably to
just go and see if your friend will fit. I imagine a club would let a
prospective student do this before money changes hands.

6'5', K13s & K21. Its a bit of a squeeze but possible.

Tell him to wear thin soled shoes, not boots, and make
sure his straps are tight enough to stop his head from
cracking the canopy.

If he wears a parachute he will definitely be over
the max seat weight.

I am very very close to your student's size and weight. I have no
problem fitting in an ASK-21 front or rear, although I prefer the
rear. I've never flown an ASK-13. I fly an LS-3a and have the rudder
pedals one notch back from full forward. I would remove my seatback if
I could but the shoulder belts are attached to the seatback bracket.
Regardless, I still am able to wear a Wedge Softie parachute.

I am 6'3" and 250 lbs wear a size 50 coat, have owned, Schweizer 1-34,
1-35, Pegasus (seat pan out), Nimbus 3 (seat pan out) have flown ASH
25, Ventus 2, LS-4, K-21, Grob, K-8, standard Cirrus and numerous
other aircraft, best idea is go to a large club and sit in some.
