Initial reports indicate the woman approached the landing
strip
but ran out of room and attempted to abort the landing.
Witnesses say she made a banking turn to begin another
attempt but the plane inverted and crashed to the ground.
The Federal Aviation Administration has joined the
sheriff's
office in an investigation of the accident.
The name of the victim has not been released.

Glider pilot killed in Palomino Valley crash

A glider pilot was killed Tuesday afternoon when she
crashed at a private airport north of Sparks.
The crash happened shortly before 1:00 PM off Winnemucca
Ranch Road.
A spokesman with Washoe County Sheriff's Department
says the female pilot was coming in too low for a landing
and crashed after making a bank turn while attempting
to make the necessary adjustments.
Deputy Darrin Rice says they have not identified the
woman and did not know her age or her hometown.
