Skiing Sabbatical Hi MJ,
I ended up coming out with my wife (she's in childcare, so could earn
some money too) and we were looking for somewhere bigger where we could
have friends and families to stay. Ended up with a place in resort
meant for 6 but with just the two of us - had to pay for it, but it was
worth it for what we wanted. We considered staying 'in the valley' or
in one of the less expensive resorts, but decided we wanted to get into
resort life and be near the lifts, and paying the extra would be worth
it. Again, no regrets with that decision at all. That said, we'd quite
often give hitchers a lift from Bourg in the valley up to Saint Foy,
Tignes or Val d'Is on our way back from shopping and they seemed to be
having a good time. I think you need determination and will power to
take this route though and it'll make it more difficult to make lots of
friends and 'leverage' the whole seasonaire angle.
No real demand for IT skills up here, not that I went out of my way to
find it. I ended up setting up the odd WiFi network and helping people
get connected, but it was always in exchange for beer, meals and skiing
lessons. The big resorts seem pretty well connected now at least, so
it's been easy for me to get free broadband in the cafes and work as if
I'm back in London.
Cheers,
Matt |
