Gregs point is well made. The Sportube is clumsy to handle and hard to
get into a rental car. It does offer serious protection however. I went
to the Sportube after NWA/KLM crushed 2 pairs of skis and two sets of
poles on a trip to Finland in 2002 but I'm not that happy with it for
the reasons he described. My traveling partners have never had skis or
poles broken using soft sided bags.
Greg, were you able to keep the soft sided bag under 50 lbs with all of
your boots, clothing etc. plus skis and poles? How many pairs of skis
did you include? Did you and Liz each carry one or did you share?
Thanks
