What was the weather for the race? Can't find any report about it.
Race photos show skiers with hats, and no extra clothing, so I'm confused.
Looks cold, not too cold. Was wind a factor?

The only factor was snow! A LOT of it, which started to come down
shortly after the start, and then kept on all the rest of the day.

The organizers had 14 (or 30+?) skiers out in the race tracks, skiing in
front of the racers to try to pack the snow into something skiable, but
it was still impossible to make a real break-out attempt.

The only one who tried seriously (around 35 K?) was rolled back in after
a few km, mostly by Frode Estil who took lead in the following 35+
strong main group.

At that time the NRK commentators were worried that Frode was burning
too many resources too early. :-(

Has he? Or are you confusing him with his brother Tobias Fredriksson,
who is one of the top sprinters?

I know that Mathias has competed in some World Cup sprint events, but
mainly for collecting soem world cup points. I cannot remember him
having wone of them.

Yes it was an unusual sight, but it it gave him the gold so that must
have been the perfect revenge for the heckling then. :)

I believe chlamydia pneumonie is TWAR, but just not always symptomatic,
which is probably what you meant. It's most commonly a children's
disease. Does he have kids? It's also believed (or was recently) that
undiagnosed/untreated chlamydia is related to heart ailments.
