I am going to have business in the Denver area in January and was
hoping to take a long weekend to get in some good xc. Are there any
suggested places, preferably with nearby lodging as family members do
not want to put up with my training schedule.

Thanks,
DAve

Interesting that no one has commented yet - it's not as if nobody in
this newsgroup has skied in Colorado.

I've only skied a few places there - Snow Mountain Ranch,
Breckenridge, and that place near Boulder - el granola or something.
Snow Mountain Ranch is run by the Y and has serviceable lodging. I
don't think it's near anything, but I think there is other stuff to do
in the Y "complex". The skiing is good, but bring your air tank.
That's the only place I would recommend of the three I've been to.

I am going to be in the Vail, Co area for a long weekend. Can anyone
recommend good xc locations?

Thanks,

Hi - I've tried the Beaver Creek trails and they are dicey. You have
to take a chairlift up and own which can be a bit time consuming. The
trails are pretty steep and have a lot of cant to them. It's not
groomed that consistently, it's pretty exposed - the last time I was up
it was blowing about 40 mph and the trail was all blown out. I guess
on a nice day it could be pretty good. Getting to Beaver Creek and
parking can be an issue also.

The Vail golf course is actually really nice if there is any recent
snow. Well groomed, free, and has a nordic club which meets Wednesdays
at 4:30 pm for a twilight/night outing with headlamps.

Chris
