I got to thinking that high gas prices can actually encourage people
to drive, as the same factor is also sure to (if it hasn't already)
drive airfares through the roof. So for those borderline trips with a
family of four where its a 60 min flight or an 8 hour drive, it would
seem the way to save money is to drive. Even with 3 $50 tanks of gas
plus wear and tear on the car, driving is less costly than flying (not
to mention having to rent a car once at your destination).

Not until yesterday, when the price of gas at my three local stations
went from $3.98/gallon to $4.07/gallon. This morning it cost me $33
to fill up my hybrid Prius! A year ago I used to fill it for $18!
