| | Guest | TimbersFest Advice I'm planning to go to Michigan's Adventure for their annual event.
This will be my first trip out there. I was wondering which city
should I fly into, either Detroit or Grand Rapids(I'll be flying from
Baltimore). Thanks. | |

Wow!!!! Once again, we must change all known reputation of Chicago
driving. It apparently is no problem!!
Heather, read my other response, your gut feel is right. Odds are the
Detroit route will be faster and lower stress. NOt to mention, I
think the entire route from Midway to the Michigan state line will be
toll roads. Of course, this is all based on your air travel being
similar cost/time wise between Chicago and Detroit destinations.

I just think stating personal experience, that is vastly different
than accepted norms, as what to expect for out of town travelers is a
disservice to that traveler. If that person read your post, they'd
think traffic is simple in Chicago, and Midway is a nice, quiet
airport. Perhaps you didn't post this in response to my earlier post,
but you mention "someone else" and then contradict me twice. If that
wasn't a direct dig on me, then yeah, I jumped the gun.
It reminded me of when LA RRCers were posting tales of driving through
all of LA in ridiculously short times. It took Robb Alvey to throw
some sense into the thread, and make sure Rastus-haters didn't totally
mislead the person asking for advice.

Obviously the person asking for help does. Just give her some honest
help, based on expected norms. That is all.
Now, if Wolf comes on here and says landing at Midway and driving out
to Michigan is a piece of cake almost all the time, maybe it's true.

Of course, you're talking a physical impossibility that Robb already
proved, without 2 stops. But hey, you're so cool, I'm sure you're
right.

Last toll will be just after the IL-IN bridge, assuming you take the Skyway.
I'd highly recommend DTW over Midway. Midway not only has to run the
outbound Chicago stretch, you need to drive city streets for about 5 miles
to get to the highway in the first place.

Midway's kind of a pain in the . Not nearly so much as O'Hare, but still
a pain. The DTW drive is merely boring.
Incidentally, Gary's really not a problem. You get more traffic from
Michigan City or Benton Harbor.
