Anaconda is one of the WORST steel coasters I have ever been on! I
could not wait to get off of the ride! Volcano is fun but not *that*
great. If I had to choose between visiting PKD or Busch Gardens, I
would choose Busch Gardens.

I agree. The only coaster at [P]KD I wanted to ride more than once was
Avalanche. Anaconda was brutal and Volcano was a major let-down.

I felt an unusual amount of anticipointment with Volcano.

I never really thought about it much but BBW is now THE oldest version
still running, and there are truly only a few of the arrows (seven)
still running.

This sums it up pretty well for me, too. I remember really liking both
launches, but my 1st WTF moment came upon entering the mountain. Thought
there would be a big section of vertical track in there ala Mystery Mine to
shoot you out the top, but in essence, you enter the back of the volcano
already fairly high up in the air, and you really just kind of going through
this curving element - with the end part coming out the top. Point being, I
thought you'd be inside a lot longer than you actually are.
Secondly, those barrel rolls. The 1st one is cool, but by the 3rd one, I
have my knitting needles out cuz I'm bored to tears. Also agree on the drop
into the mountain. A drop into a vertical loop and a helix into the brakes
even would have been better than what exists there now. DEFINITELY a
top-rated "WTF?" coaster moment.

Didn't BBW open same year as XLR8 (which is now gone) but both were
successful.

XLR8 opened a few weeks before BBW. Anybody who has ridden both
coasters knows that BBW is the a much more exciting ride than XLR8
(May it rest in peace) and I think that had more to do with the
different designers and topography.

*snip*
Slight correction. Volcano was the first "successful" launched suspended
coaster. The first being an LSM-driven Vekoma "face off" style inverted
boomerang coaster. It proved problematic and was switched back over to
chain operation. | |

Not trying to be a uber-nerd; however, correct me if I'm wrong,
Buck--but, Hangover wasn't a "launched" suspended. The LSM's were to
be used as the chain, so to speak. Volcano launched, while the
Invertigo was supposed to drag the train up the lift. Right?
As for Volcano vs. Linear Gale:
Both ran in 1998, but I'm not sure which ran first. Volcano ran very
sporadically (with those half-capacity trains! lol); but, I seem to
recall LG opening with little or no problems?
I have no evidence to back this up, but I vaguely recall LG opening
earlier in the year (at least, earlier than August [which I think is
when VTBC started running]).
Anyone else have the Volcano/1998 credit? Yeah, I do.. WHUT? :)
