Yep, Six Flags has for a long time had that rule....no single backseat
rides. Gotta have a witness if something happens.....did the lapbar
fail, or was the rider trying to escape the safety device and stand
up? (or, !!!! climb out !!!!) If there are no people sitting behind
you, your only witness has to be the person sitting next to you (and
you their witness). I don't know what the story is about this rule;
that is, I'm not sure if all Six Flags parks have it, or still have
it, but I remember in about '89 on GASM at SFGAdv in NJ I was going to
ride single about 3 or 4 rows from the back, but all the rows behind
me were empty. I was not allowed to ride due to the fact that there
were no witnesses behind or next to me. They have/had that rule for
some flat rides too.....same reason.

Anyone know if it's a hard and fast rule at Six Flags still....if so,
at *all* SF parks......all coasters, or just certain ones?

I would suggest it's probably a hard and fast rule given that I've been told
I couldn't ride in the back alone even on Gold Rusher, and I was also told I
could not ride alone on Freefall.

No it's not a hard and fast rule. I have ridden alone in the back seats of the
coasters at Six Flags Ohio, Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, and Six Flags Marine
World.

Making broad generalizations about other Six Flags parks based only on Magic
Mountain is not the best thing to do.

To add to that I have never had that happen to me at Six Flags St Louis, Six
Flags Great America, and when I went to SFMM I never encountered that, so, I
guess it all depends on the ride op then.
