| | Guest | satellite Tv in RV Hi again, helpful folks.
I saw a portable satellite antenna that
cost less than $200. I also have read articles where people take their
satellite receivers from home and put then in their RVs.
It went on to say how the could not get their local channels or that they
only got certain channels depending on where they were in the country. etc.
but they did get major networks.
Our MH has an option that it is already wired
for satellite.
If I purchase the portable antenna, then subscribe to a basic satellite
service that provides all the equipment for home, can I take the receiver
and then put it in the rv and I'll have basic satellite in the RV?

When we signed up for Dish Network, I bought an extra dish + a Winegard
tripod for a lot less than $200. (CW charges less for the tripod than the
local installer charged...)
The local installer knew full well that we intended use with the RV from
the outset and, for the "home" setup, installed a 4-feed setup.
So far, *none* of the receivers has *ever* been connected to a phone line.
Of course, we're not "into" PPV...

Here is my experience with Direct TV over several years. I never
signed up for Direct TV in the house. I contacted them for an RV
Waiver. They sent me the forms to fill out, I returned them & a couple
of weeks later I got the OK to put the receiver in my RV. I signed up
for the "Choice" Package, PLUS East & West Coast feeds on the major
networks. So, what I have is, a system that has never been hooked to
a phone line, that gets the major networks every place I can get a
signal and if I want to see pay per view, I go on line and order what
we want to see at regular prices. If you phone in PPV, there is an
extra charge. For a dish, we have ours mounted on a T mount made from
1 1/2 plastic pipe with a verticle stem in the leg of the T that the
dish fastens to, so I can level the dish and lock in on the bird in a
very few minutes.
Now, the kicker. When we get home, we take the receiver out of the RV
and carry it into the house and hook it up to the house TV. We get
local networks off an antena in the attic and still get the national
east & west coast feeds. We have a seperate dish that we bought off
Ebay mounted on the house We HAVE NOT NEVER hooked it to a phone
line because it's a mobile unit in an RV. We would never ask for
local channels off the sattelite either, since we get them off a
regular antenna. If you ask for locals AND East & West Coast feeds,
THAT SETS OFF A TRIGGER!!
Good Luck!

We have the King-Dome automatic satellite finder and pay the $18.00
per month for DirecTV service for mobile customers with the Los
Angeles/New York networks. When we happend to be up in the pacific
northwest we crank up the regular antenna and get local channels.
Seems to work O.K. We never feel the need to use PPV.

Man, this group is awesome!! Seeing we have cable already at home, and like
it. When we travel more, I'll go the cheap basic satellite route for the RV.
* Hint: I just shared my idea with my wife, and she reminded me how we are
newly retired and have to figure out our regular expenses. I think getting
new chrome wheels for the Super glide is still in the running though...<VBG>

Nothing to get away with and perfectly legal.... You have to have an address
for a postpaid cell contract, and there are many people that have "cut the
wire" ie no land line, cell only. The demographics are based on your account
address.... As for DNS, I had those too (and national PBS), just say no to
any locals (even if free), and no to order ppv via remote (tell em you have
kids, and never want them able to hit the order button)... You do have to
pick your "location" when you set up the account (ie no teams within 100
miles or they may black you out, got burned on that using a baltimore
address, they blacked out the ravens<--football, was told they would do the
same for the orioles<-- baseball)... Luckily, I like the raiders and could
watch them on the west coast feed, like when I was in an analog cell area
and couldn't get authorized - you need digital for caller id to work :)
