Default Onan fuse burns leading to fuel pump

Onan Emerald 6.0,about five years old. The fuel pump fuse burns.

Put jumper wire from hot solenoid post to fuel pump and it works.
Local onan dealer is booked solid for

another two weeks.

Thanks Todd

Default Onan fuse burns leading to fuel pump - A hazard?

My trip under the MH showed a group of gas lines, all of which seemed to be
running in and out of the tank. But loosening the connections into the
actual tank is just alittle beyond me. Some net searching revealed prices
ranging from 3 to 5 hundred dollars.

I can get to the fuel line heading back to the generator quite easily,
making a 2 way valve installation a lot easier project.

1. Make sure the fuse you're putting in is the right rating - if this is an
NHE, it should be a 10A fuse.

2. The fuse also provides power to the heating element in the electric
choke - if the set runs more or less normally with power jumped to the fuel
pump, I would suspect a problem with the element causing it to draw excess
current or short to ground. Check this by unplugging the lead to the element
(the small plastic-covered cylinder mounted on the bottom of the carburetor
side of the air cleaner adapter, with a linkage arem and rod on the back
side that goes up to the choke mechanism). With it unplugged, put in a new
fuse and see what happens. If it doesn't blow the fuse now, replace the
electric choke mechanism (element isn't available separately). Note that
leaving it unplugged is only a short-term fix - the set will run more or
less normally because a vacuum diaphragm pulls the choke -mostly- open as
soon as the set runs - but unless the electric choke functions, the choke
will never -completely- open.

If your genset -isn't- a 6.5NHE, please provide the exact model and spec.

Alan
