Onan fuse burns leading to fuel pump

1. Make sure the fuse you're putting in is the right rating - if this is an
NHE, it should be a 10A fuse.
2. The fuse also provides power to the heating element in the electric
choke - if the set runs more or less normally with power jumped to the fuel
pump, I would suspect a problem with the element causing it to draw excess
current or short to ground. Check this by unplugging the lead to the element
(the small plastic-covered cylinder mounted on the bottom of the carburetor
side of the air cleaner adapter, with a linkage arem and rod on the back
side that goes up to the choke mechanism). With it unplugged, put in a new
fuse and see what happens. If it doesn't blow the fuse now, replace the
electric choke mechanism (element isn't available separately). Note that
leaving it unplugged is only a short-term fix - the set will run more or
less normally because a vacuum diaphragm pulls the choke -mostly- open as
soon as the set runs - but unless the electric choke functions, the choke
will never -completely- open.
If your genset -isn't- a 6.5NHE, please provide the exact model and spec.
