| | Guest | Buying a starcraft Aruba Ok,
My wife and I are now in florida, looking for a TT and a tow vehicle
We have found a TT which we like very much:
Starcraft Aruba
298RKS
1SABS02P671VG5554
UVW 6,655LBS
GVWR 10,000LBS
38g water tank
2 x 30lb gas
Tongue weight: 977LBS
Does anyone have anyone have info on the weaknesses of this TT.
Particularly structural or mechanical.
We can see that it may be short on storage space.
Large kitchen to rear
Bed to front
Hide a bed sofa and Jack knife sofa
Single super slide.
Second question: What is the best price I can expect to pay for this
unit, bearing in mind the following:
XXXX RV Original price: $26,000
XXXX RV First offer: $22,996
Manufacturer price: $25,000
I have found this price in Georgia (400 miles away)
Peco Campers Published price: $19,895
Any thoughts on either question would be graefully received.
Today we look for a tow vehicle.
We are looking for a passenger van, or large SUV.
A ¾ ton would tow it, but my wife has a 300lb electric wheelchair
(thats why not a pick up), that plus the tongue weight doesn't leave
much for luggage and friends. (not that we have many). Despite the RV
salesman saying variously that a good ½ tonner would do the job (of
course they think new - think used).
Cheers

Terry, I can't help on the TT - it has been several years since I
looked seriously at them, but it seems to me a 10,000# trailer is well
beyond what can be safely/comfortably towed with a van. Please don't
try towing with an SUV - very few have enough wheelbase for competent
towing.
We have a GMC Savana 3500 extended van that is an excellent tow
vehicle. Ours has the 5.7L motor and 3.73 gears - BUT even with the
biggest motor and stump-pulling gears (4.10) it's only rated at
10,000# max towing - an d then only if you're carrying nothing in the
van.
I urge you to consider a lighter trailer, remembering that most people
don't live IN rv's - they live out of them!

I meant to "imply" that if Will had read the article he would have seen
the retraction of the subject line. But, I undoubtedly overestimated
Will's intelligence, an easy thing to do, since my child rearing days
are behind me.

If you think the left wing follows lock step, you haven't been reading
here. Given the fact that your wrote "I'm normally pretty easy going,
and get along with everybody", you must be having an off day.
