Default Two new Boston-NYC bus services

I've seen Fung Wah along I-84 and I-90 heading to and from Boston. How
is their track record?

Ok when they don't blow up and burn to the ground.

:-))

They have been under fire from regulating authorities for a variety of
problems.

Their drivers are licensed in NY which has less-stringent regs when it
comes to issuing a bus driver's license. Locally the state is now
requiring them to have drivers that understand and can speak a minimal
amount of English.

At least 2 of their busses have had to pull over on the highway and be
evacuated due to fire and one rolled over when the driver took an exit
ramp too fast.

There are other cheap alternatives. One departs from near the Charle
sHotel in Harvard Sq and another from Quincy. Both make trips to NYC
with varying destinations there.

If you book your Greyhound ticket online and look around the website
for the discount rate (it's easy to find) round-trip fare is $31.50
(with "service charge") versus Fung Wah's $30.

Keep in mind that if the Fung Wah-type competition ever went away,
Greyhound and Peter Pan fares would probably rise to about $60, which
is what they charge for similar distances nearly everywhere else.

Ten years ago, it was not unheard-of to buy a round-trip Boston-to-New
York bus ticket for $50 or so.

The prices took a nice spike until Fung Wah and the others brought
about serious competition. Getting rid of them would once again cause
prices to leap back up to the $80 range.
