Default New Map For Hudson-Bergen Light Rail

Do you know anything about the proposed extension to 8th Street in
Bayonne? Originally it was going to extend to 5th St. Is 8th Street a
better location for further extension to Staten Island in the future?
Is that what they are thinking? I noticed the 5th Street extension
would veer westward towards Newark Bay and away from Staten Island.

I like the through-service from the north, bypassing Hoboken to points
south. Good way to run a system, as many will have no need for Hoboken
and it will make their trips faster and more convient.

It looks like an extension westward to the Meadowlands Sports Complex
on the northern leg is very doable. Only another 4 or 5 miles and they
are in the Meadowlands. A straight shot, not much in the way. Perhaps
a station in Seacacus would make sense, as it is the only population
center between Tonnelle Ave and the Meadowlands. Is there talk of a
Seacacus station?

The nice thing about this strip schematic map is that it clearly shows
the different routes for the new service. The other, geographic map,
while more detailed with streets and attractions, does not show the
services at all. A rider would actually find the strip schematic map
more useful if they were trying to figure how to get from Tonnelle Ave
to Bayonne via the fastest route.

No, because there is no overall map of (say) Hudson County bus routes.
And the map in the 84/86 timetable gives me no idea of where the bus
stops near the PATH stations are.

Neither is the NYC subway map. As far as a system map goes this new
schematic map serves a light rail rider much better than the old
version on their website. If you want to get from point A to point B
on the light rail, it clearly shows you the fastest way to do so, and
that is exactly what a map should do. NJ Transit should publish more
detailed maps that incorprate bus routes for those who require more
detail, just like the MTA does for the five boroughs on their website.
Also, maps at local light rail stations that show local bus routes
would make a lot of sense.

Why are you talking about rail maps? The train routes and station
locations are clearly indicated on every street map of (e.g.) Hudson
County.

The bus maps of the five boroughs are excellent. They are not schematic.

There is NO bus map of Hudson County, either useful or not useful (nor
of the rest of New Jersey, I would assume).

Perhaps a detailed map on the NJT website and at the light rail
stations would be sufficient for people looking to make bus
connections. For anyone parking at Tonnelle Avenue looking to get to
work in Jersey City, the schematic map suits their purposes just fine.

BTW, I see where you guys are coming from looking for bus connections.
NYC handles the problem fairly well. Each subway station has a local
map with more lcoal information on it. Also the MTA website offers
intergrated Bus/Subway maps for the 5 boroughs. I suspect NJT will
too, if enough people request it for highly urabanized areas of the
state.

The Hudson County website has a Transit Guide and Map that is good and
can be printed out.

Take care,

One interesting thing about that map is that it shows the Hudson
(Bergen) Light Rail as it was originally conceived, going north to
Vince Lombardi Park and Ride and South to West 5th St in Bayonne.
