Default quickest way to coney island?

I need to travel to Coney Island from the Upper West Side of Manhattan
this coming Monday night around 5pm. What is the quickest way to get
there? Subway? Car? If by car, what route do you recommend to avoid
traffic?

By subway, you're looking at about an hour no matter which way you slice
it. The D, F, and Q trains all run to Coney Island now. The N will
resume operation to Coney Island at some point in the future, but that
doesn't help you much for this coming Monday. Probably the fastest
route is the N to New Utrecht Avenue-62 Street, and then the D the rest
of the way to Stillwell Avenue-Coney Island. Since you're coming from
the Upper West Side, it's probably just as easy to take the D all the
way to the end and avoid jockeying for transfers twice. The other
subway option worth mentioning is the B to the end (at Brighton Beach),
then a cross-platform change to the Q for its last 3 stops. This last
option is how I personally would go at that time of day.

I would specifically NOT drive if I was looking for speed on a Monday at
5pm.
