Default Track Layouts

As I sometimes find myself in a front or rear car of various subway trains,
I look out at the track layouts (and having Pete Dougherty's excellent book
in various editions for reference), I have a sense that there were once more
crossovers than there are now, especially around express stations.

Perhaps changes due to platform lengthening programs?

Am I remembering things wrong?

How about north of DeKalb Avenue? How did that track layout change when the
platform was extended and Myrtle Avenue closed?

Are there older track maps available on the net anywhere?

Cheers,
Jim Guthrie

In answer to your question about DeKalb -- that changed in the 1960's
when the platforms were extended....the crossovers were removed and
all line-switching was then done south of the station platforms.

I forget where I saw drawings of the original layout. Somehow Joe
Brennan's site comes to mind. Sorry I don't have it bookmarked....or
I'd post it.
