Would life in prison without parole be an appropriate penalty
for the "crime" of jaywalking? No doubt some idealogues even
more extreme than you in their concepts of "responsibility"
would think so.

Which shows how little you know about the abilities of a

SPEECH is still legal, Phil, despite the efforts of some
idealogues to destroy it.

Whatever... You didn't commit a crime, you parked on private property
without permission. The owner was well within his rights. If he wanted, he
could say that everyone is allowed to park, unless your first name starts
with "B". | |

CVS could charge a fee, but give a validation stamp to customers that
would exempt them from paying.
It's very frustrating when there's an abundance of private parking and
a lack of public parking in an area, especially during times when the
facility associated with the private parking is closed. Owners of
daytime businesses should be encouraged to make parking lot
arrangements with places like restaurants that get more business in
the evening.
In New York State or City, are towing fees for "vehicular trespass"
regulated?

CVS Stores may have been technically within their legal rights
to tow my car and extort $160 from me, but what they perpetrated
was a draconian penalty way out of proportion to my trivial
offense, which unlike what they did harmed no one.
Staying within my legal rights of free speech and freedom of the
press, I can easily cost CVS far, far more than the sum they
extorted from me. Should fair compensation not be forthcoming, I
most certainly will do so. You may disagree, but as their
authoritarian sympathizers might say, "that's the way it is!"

And what if you had taken the last available spot, so they missed out on a
big sale because there was no parking available?
Also, you may think $160 is outrageous, others may not. I know people who
regularly drive to work and when they can't find a parking spot just park on
the street. They just accept the $40 ticket as part of the expense of
driving a car. I'm guessing that the $160 is high enough to be an effective
deterrent.
BTW, what happens in New York when you park on a busy downtown street for an
hour? That's public property - you should be allowed to park there anytime,
right? | |
