Why didn't you leave earlier to get to the interview?

Perhaps the driver left the previous schedule check point on time and
there is a lot of time between it and the next schedule check point.
Rather than arrive early, and possibly have to sit there and block
traffic, the driver was "pacing the line" as it is sometimes known in
the transit industry.
May I suggest that you don't cut your schedule so close that you might
lose out on a job by getting there at the last minute possible?
Better to be an hour early than a minute late is what I always heard.

| | Guest | The Crawling Express You just have to understand that to some people, being late is always your own
damn fault. It does not matter if the ferry boat went out of service due to
mechanical problems. The subway trains were delayed due to a man jumping on
the tracks. There was a six car collision on the highway that killed twenty
people, a baby and two dogs. Your being late to an event is your own damn
fault. Those kinds of folks will always say that "you should have left early",
even if you have to wait outside in the cold-snow-rain-blazing sun - whatever.
Those kinds of folks will always say "you should plan your time better". Those
kinds of folks will always say, "you see I am never late because I take care of
business", etc.
By placing the blame on you - such folks never have to confront the idea that
the "system" has problems or needs any kind of fixing.
For example - some trains, ferries and buses to many places run once hour -
meaning that it is easy to spend 2 and half hours "traveling" from one place to
another. To such folks - such a schedule means that you have to "live with it"
and "work it into your plans". While never ever thinking that the situation
could be changed - by writing letters about the transit service to elected
officials or operators of the transit service. Or joining in cooperation and
action to get transportation services and methods improved for everybody. No -
to such folks its - always your own damn fault if and when you are late to an
event, or work, etc.
So now I hope that you understand why you're being late to your appointment
was, in the view of some people - "your own damn fault".

Then there are those who refuse to accept blame on themselves, and blame the
system. I doubt the 'system' is at fault if a man jumps in front of the
train, nor is there a 'system' at fault for a 20 car pile up, the 'system'
has partial responsibility over mechanical difficulties on a ferry boat; but
sometimes things go wrong; and as a commuter in NYC and anywhere else YOU
have to plan for these problems. What the heck is writing a letter going to
do about a 20 car pile up; or a man jumping onto the tracks? If you want to
write a letter for increased LIRR or MTNR service on some lines, then go
ahead, petition for it. But until they change the service, or traffic
clears up in Brooklyn; commuters have to factor in for the
schedules/possible(read likely) delays of their travel time.
I will say however, that there was no excuse for the BO to be rude, or short
with any customer; there is also no excuse for the customer to 'tell them
where to go' because service was slow; you want courtesy and respect, you
have to give it to get it; and no it doesn't start with the other guy giving
it to you.

What university is this, where professors are accountable to anybody?

What university is this where the professors keep track of who is late?

It's their prerogative to set the conditions for satisfactory completion
of the course. It also opens them up for a charge of hypocrisy, however.
