Default Fire hydrant tickets

Need some info. Was in NYC earlier this month for my father's funeral, in
Manhattan on Lower East Side. Overnight, I got two tickets for that same night
for parking too close to a fire hydrant. I'm from Indiana; I've contested one
over the Internet site with no luck; the other probably will be the same.
As I live in Indiana, what risks am I running if I lose out but don't pay the
tickets. The two combined are $210; all for one violation! Do I risk anything
when I renew registration on the car in Indiana; do I risk being towed if I
visit my mother, who still lives in NYC, with an Indiana car?
Any advice would be appreciated. If this isn't the newsgroup to ask these
questions, let me know where. AJ

Exactly. I parked at the end of the block; the intersection, and way more than
15 feet were open in one direction. The other direction wasn't marked; I walked
it off as best as I could to approximate 15 feet; not good enough. I got two
tickets that night; one said 5 feet; the other said 6 feet. Apparently police
used subjective measures as well.
P.S. I wasn't parked in front of the hydrant.
